Prayers and discernment

Prayers and discernment should go together in spiritual warfare.

Discernment is a two way focus; what’s happening in us and what’s happening outside us. Discernment is a diagnosis of a problem through the Holy Spirit and is a gift of the Holy Spirit.

If you are not led by the Holy Spirit, then you can’t discern. If you can’t discern, then you will pray blind prayers. You become like a blind person in a boxing ring sparring with a full sighted devil. The reality is more horrifying because our spiritual war is a fight to death.

The devil is not a clown or a teaser. He is an evil, hell bound, blood thirsty, unrepentant serious killer with nothing to lose.

Logic will tell you that if you are going to the ring with a person like that, then you need to have a good eye sight. This is spiritual discernment that comes as a gift from the Holy Spirit. If you are not filled with the Holy Spirit , as God to fill you. The Holy Spirit is like a dove and will not dwell or land on a person that is hostile to God. So it’s important to humble yourself, repent and seek God in sincerity and in truth.

John 4: 23 But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

Examine Yourself Before Engaging In Prayer

Jesus taught about prayer and righteousness in Mathew 6: 1-16 and what we should do if we are to be effective.

Practising acts of righteousness which includes giving, prayer and fasting is not to be a public knowledge or show but a private matter between you and God. You should not tell the whole world when you do it like hypocrites do otherwise it will be null and void and a waste of time.

Many words in prayers are acts of a carnal mind. We should hold the name of God in reverend. We should always desire to live in the Kingdom of God (which Jesus said is among us in Luke 17:20-21) and ready to do the will of God at all time. We should always be ready to forgive others and not expect to be forgiven our sins if we don’t.

Desire to be led by the Holy Spirit as you pray

Always ask the Holy Spirit to lead you when you are praying for something. Sometimes you will  be surprised by what you are led to pray for.

John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come

Psalm 119:66 Teach me good discernment and knowledge…

I am relatively inexperienced in this ministry of deliverance but for the short time i have been involved, I am surprised by what the Holy Spirit Has shown me and led me to do. There were times I thought that someone was playing with me by telling me of a positive outcome Just to please me.

I will say that I have been personally astonished by the quick answers to the Holy Spirit led prayers unlike blind prayers of fighting shadows.[ I am trying to get the best ways of sharing these testimonies without taking God’s glory. It’s not about me or our prayer group. It’s about Jesus]

Effective Prayer

I have now learnt that if you wish to be effective in prayer, live a life of worshipping God in Spirit and in Truth. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you into what (not from the presented face value), how and when to pray in any situation however minor. Make prayer and fasting completely private. Don’t take the glory in what God has done.
