I am proud of my ancestral heritage. I am thankful to my creator for placing me in that type of ancestry.
I am however not proud of how my ancestors lived all the way back to the time of Adam and Eve. Humans inherited post Adamic curses. Some of the curses are obvious in the scriptures and in our world today. A good example is working for your living. Its an act of maintaining your body. Genesis 3:19 (NIV) “…By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return. ” This is a curse for disobedience by Adam and Eve. It follows us to this day. Genesis 6:3 (NIV) Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” Humans rarely live beyond 120 years just as the bible says. Even in Wikipedia, the longevity ceiling is 120 years! (Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longevity). This is another inherited body condition again due to disobedience that the pre-flood generation didn’t have to go through. They all lived for nearly 1000 years. Read Genesis chapter 5.
We also inherit curses from specific family sins. Sins from false religions, cults, secret societies, militias, gangs, murderers, acts of waywardness or prostitution, dark spirituality, etc. All of them touch on idolatry and disregard to the Creator and His creation. They run into the family lineage affecting children up to the fourth generation.
Numbers 14:18 (NIV) The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation…
I can relate to a trail of curses that plagued my personal life that I didn’t know I had. I had heaps and heaps of all sorts of curses, inherited curses and curses I picked up through my sinful lifestyle. I put a monumental effort to try and deal with these curses but instead, I failed miserably.
A day came when the truth hit me after a spiritual transformation, then all curses ceased to have a hold on me.
Romans 8:1 (NIV) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…
People say that they are in Christ because they joined a church or were born to a church going culture. When you are really in Christ, your human spirit confirms it. Its not by brain knowledge!
Going to church is OK but if you live in habitual sins then you have not been transformed yet!
1 John 3:6 No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him.
How did I know that I was changed? The first signs were a sudden absence of condemnation and phobias that had been part of me since childhood. I didn’t feel condemned anymore. Fear of death, fear of other humans, extreme shame, doubts about my abilities and some ridiculous tendency to please humans disappeared overnight!
2 Timothy1:7 (New KJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear…
The change was not gradual but instant. I slept the previous day bound by these curses and woke up the next day a free human. My spirit was free and full of courage.
Later I noticed that I didn’t struggle with habitual sins. I easily stopped to do what was not right. This is something I could not do before. I didn’t fear other people’s condemnation. Other humans reactions and opinions became irrelevant. What mattered was what pleased God for it lit up in my spirit.
Follow the narratives in my other blog posts. There are tens of other things that ceased to be a bother after I was set free.
God had a plan for our redemption from curses we inherited or curses from our own actions. This was confirmed by the life and eventual crucifixion of Jesus.
Jesus became a curse in order to set us free from these curses. However, the freedom cannot apply to us unless we are transformed and acknowledge His work on the cross.
We carry curses mainly from our ancestral heritage, from our sinful activities or from words spoken against us. These curses make it extremely hard for us to live really peaceful lives .
We can break these curses from our lives by renouncing sins, repenting sins, renouncing and repenting sins on behalf of our ancestors. I have written elsewhere in my writings that curses are like a snake’s poison. It spreads and can’t go away until it has been dealt with.
The following three scriptures summarises what we need to know as we claim victory over all curses.
Numbers 21:8 The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”
John 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up
Jesus became a curse on behalf of our own curses. His body was the unblemished lamb that took away the sins poison when he was sacrificed on the cross.
Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”
