LiV By Understanding Ageing & Longevity

Human history has periods when men and women completely forgot who they really are or their origin. The ancestral past became a folktale passed on by word of mouth. They scattered all over the world and developed cultures and socioeconomic systems that are a far cry from the original secure, peaceful and a loving presence of the Creator. They threw reality of the mortality of their bodies through the window. Instead they learnt to depend on the capacity of these ageing bodies that are equipped with easily destructible brains. Humans felt confident to steer their ways here on earth their own way!

I can only equate this whole picture to a human, happily flying in a pilot-less spacecraft relying on a computer made from flesh, body fluids and an electric current. Though it sounds absurd, irresponsible, foolish and utterly stupid, this is how we live!

Our bodies are ageing and our brain’s logic circuits relies on these perishing materials to function. We are proudly independent, doing what we want, because we can, and rebellious towards our Maker. It does not please the Creator because He knows that inside this decaying body is His precious creation, the human soul!

Our rebellion attracts curses and it did not start recently. Though most civilizations today have lived independently throughout their dark ages, we all have a common heritage. Our human heritage dates back to our first parents, Adam and Eve, who failed in every way to get it right. They listened to the deceiver and by doing so, handed us a sentence of curses that trails us to this day.

Unknown to many humans is that we don’t need to live this way. We’ve been set free from these curses. In order to live in this victory, we need to get rid of the current ignorance of who we really are. First, we must know that the body was made for us (the soul) not the the soul for the body! Second, we inherited curses from our ancestors in our bodies by being born through them. That sounds unfair for we didn’t choose where our bodies are to be made or born!

God saw this problem and provided us with a way out. How? He pronounced His living words through the scriptures. Words, if followed and believed, will enable us to live in victory over all curses for ever!

Among the earliest scriptures that captured prophesies to reconcile humans to God was done when people were in their heights of distress. It is common logic that during painful times people can listen! I have said in my other writings, that Israel is a nation that was chosen by God to reveal himself and execute His big plan to redeem us from the captivity of our sinful nature. He used messengers or what we call prophets. One of these prophets was prophet Ezekiel who prophesied when Jews were living in captivity in Babylon.

Ezekiel was born in Israel and began prophesying towards the beginning of the 6th century BC. He was taken captive together with the residents of Jerusalem when it was conquered by king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. Ezekiel spent the rest of his life in Babylon where he died in captivity. During his life in Babylon he prophesied lots of messages that touched on Israel and pointed to the current age of righteousness by faith.

Please note that Ezekiel was living in the last days before the birth of the messiah! The Holy Spirit was slowly unveiling the purpose of the coming of the savior of the world! He did it through the mouths of the prophets who lived around this time!

About 590 years before Jesus was born, prophet Ezekiel prophesied the following message.

Ezekiel 18:20 (NIV) The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them

This is fairness at its finest. A man or a woman is an independent spirit-being made in the image of God. We are therefore accountable for our sins only and not the sins of our ancestors. God has freed us from sins we inherited through our bodies! Though our bodies are born of human parents, our soul is put in the body directly by the Creator! Souls are not born of human parents or do they inherit anything from them. The bodies inherit the DNA mappings and thereby similarities in functions and appearance. This can create a deception that the soul is a chip of the human parents, no, the soul is a chip of the Creator Himself!

It’s clear that curses follow a body’s ancestral lineage. Some of the curses are obvious in the scriptures and since we live in these bodies, they affect our lives today. A good example is working for our living to maintain our bodies.  Genesis 3:19 (NIV) “…By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return. ”

There are two curses in this one scripture that were pronounced after the first human disobedience towards the Creator. This is the curse of providing for our bodies by sweating for it. Then there is the curse of ageing. Our bodies were now subject to dying but not so quickly since humans continued to live for hundreds of years, nearly 1000 years to be precise (Genesis chapter 5).

However,  man continued to displease God. Then a harsher curse followed. This is the curse of accelerated ageing! Human bodies that could self repair and live for many years started collapsing quickly!

Even Kind David could not live beyond 70 years. He even thought that we should all live to 70 or 80 years. He may have written the words in Psalm 90:10 in his deathbed.  He didn’t make it to 80.

Psalm 90:10 (NIV) Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

God had set the human longevity ceiling many years before David was born. This age limit of 120 years still stands today! Genesis 6:2-3 (NIV) the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

The bible says that David was a man after God’s heart. David became a victim of the curse of premature death. Given that, fast ageing came from the same thing that David practiced, marrying any woman he wanted. He had legal and illegal relationships or what some people call sidekicks or concubines. 2 Samuel 5:13 (NLT) After moving from Hebron to Jerusalem, David married more concubines and wives, and they had more sons and daughters.

This was surely not something that really pleased God, no wonder as a celebrated battle hero he could only live to see 70. He fell for the sin that the bible says affect our own bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV) Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

Scriptures reveal that David looked full of years, meaning that he looked old when he died!

1 Chronicles 29:28 (NIV) He died at a good old age…

This was a surprise to me when I researched on his real age by the time he died. So many questions crossed my mind about people’s lifespan during David’s time! Were they so worn out by that age?

Early ageing is an inherited body condition that pre-flood generation didn’t experience. They all lived for nearly 1000 years. Read Genesis chapter 5. No medical remedy can reverse it. No amount of medication will make you live much longer than 120 years. You could prolong a human age to 120 years but the quality of life maybe questionable!

Apart from only one person in recent recorded history, Jeanne Calment (1875–1997), a French woman who reportedly lived to 122, humans rarely live beyond 120 years just as the bible says. Even in Wikipedia, the longevity ceiling is 120 years! (Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longevity).

However, we can leave healthy and free of medication to 120 years if we lived in obedience. Moses is a perfect example of a healthy body hitting the ceiling age of 120 years! He died in good health.

Deuteronomy 34:7 (NIV) Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone

Why can’t we live to 120 or better still a healthy 120 years? There are many factors all tied to disobedience! These disobedience comes through our actions and  beliefs or through our ancestral heritage!

I found many other reasons other than sexual immorality that make us age quickly and sign ourselves to an early death! The scriptures below point to wickedness, foolish living (could be obvious ones like not exercising, being on drugs, excessive alcohol intake , wrong diet or living on junk food), our own cleverness and dishonoring our parents are good examples!

Ecclesiastes 7:17 But don’t be too wicked or too foolish, either—why die before you have to?

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Ephesians 6:2-3 (NLT)“Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise:If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”

Let’s never get surprised when a human lives to 90 or 100 years for they are still short of God’s intended age limit of 120 years!

What is the way forward? We need to humble our spiritual self, repent (turn our mindset) and in the privacy of our room, seek God. God is Spirit and those who want to connect to Him must do it in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 (NIV) God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth..

Other curses on humans and how to get rid of them!
