There are many evidences of God the Son getting involved with us before He was born to human parents in about 4 BC (Sounds interesting when we say BC which is the English abbreviation for Before Christ).
I believe this is reassuring because we expected Jesus as a Son of God to have existed before He was born. It also shows God’s love for mankind. He loved us so much that He risked revealing His son before He was born on earth!
One interesting recorded evidence, is the conversation between Abraham and three visitors before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham addressed one of them as Lord. This person remained with him when the other two left for Sodom and Gomorrah. Who was this person? Was He God the Son?
Genesis 18:2-3(NIV) Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord..” Verse 17 Then the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? Verse 22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord. Genesis 19:1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom… ((NIV)
We also see God the Son in action when Joshua was about to attack Jericho. The scriptures say that he saw the Lord holding a sword!
Joshua 5:13-15 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” Then Joshua fell face down to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?” The commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
The answer was clear that He was the Lord! He was God of all people, Jews or gentiles!
There is another clue, angels normally asked humans not to worship them, but the Person in the scripture, didn’t object when Joshua fell face down to worship Him!
I, John, am the one who heard and saw all these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me. But he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!” Rev 22:8-8 (NLT
Unlike John in the island of Patmos, the Person that Joshua saw, asked him to remove his sandals. A similar scenario to when Moses saw a burning bush! Therefore this was no angel, or human, but God in a human form! His presence made the ground that He was standing on, holy!
In the book of Daniel, we see three Jewish boys who were living in exile refuse to worship what was provided to them by the Babylonians but chose to worship only the living God. They were furiously taken and thrown into a blazing furnace, but were saved from being consumed in the fire by a Person who looked like a Son of God. The following are the words of king Nebuchadnezzar when he looked at where they had thrown Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego!
Daniel 3:15 He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”.
The above scriptures are among the most interesting writings about the Son of God in action before He was born in the flesh to redeem us from sin.
