This article is about living in spiritual victory from undesired habitual traits through self-deliverance!
We are all struggling with something that makes us look bad, feel bad, and that also enslaves us to undesired habits!
Know the truth
The bible says “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32, NLT)
One of the basic truths is that our world is full of EVIL beings that are without a body! These beings crave to occupy a body to experience what the world can offer!
They therefore invade humans in masses and in the process demonise them! These beings use anything they can to convince humans to allow them occupy their bodies!
They use logic, religion, culture, government channels, and social structures to infiltrate the human mind!
The biggest shortcoming with humanity today is that many do not believe in the existence of evil spiritual beings! Humans live carelessly exposing themselves to these beings who gladly take over their minds!
Once upon a time, this happened in Genesis 6, leading to the great flood that wiped out all humans from the face of the earth! Only Noah and is family survived! Just like today, men and women had given themselves to the seduction of evil spiritual beings that gladly occupied their bodies. This caused a spiritual havoc that greatly offended our Creator!
“For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies—the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world” (Ephesians 6:12 TLB)
We are sometimes lost, and like sheep without a shepherd we wonder about looking for help! Unfortunately the people we turn to for guidance are themselves helpless, but outwardly live a religious life of faking their abilities! We become frustrated as we try to overcome evil through learned religious lifestyles! Spiritual victories over our habitual sins become elusive, unattainable, and a mirage!
Why? Because we are fighting what we don’t know or don’t want to know!
Many mainstream religions will not acknowledge the presence of demons in humans! Instead, they talk of human personalities, and not realising that some human characters are actually shaped by unclean spirits alive in people!
Recognising that evil is a living being alive in you is the first step towards freedom from habitual sin! These beings are identified by different traits in humans! You will know that a specific demon is there by observing the presence of any type of addiction! These could be among others, a demon of lust, such as a sex demon, alcohol, drugs, lust for wealth, lust for power, or even lust for recognition!
Nearly every human has these beings living in them as permanent residents or in-and-out on short periods! Within the time an evil spirit is in your body, it may dominate your thought system!
Though some types of demons have loud-observable mayhems, many pass the test of being gentle humans! They are quite respectable in their borrowed bodies until an opportunity for evil arises, then their true colours come out!
So, irrespective of how quiet or loud they are, when demons are living in our bodies, sin is alive in us! This is the most dangerous situation to any human being, since a demon is like a time-bomb, unpredictable and embarrassing to say the least!
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8, NIV)
Though many humans struggle with demons in their lives, they are ashamed to admit their demon-induced weaknesses but instead cover it under religion, education, or culture!
Do you want to be free?
If you do, then you need to start by identifying those demons living in you!
After identifying them, the next step is addressing each demon till it comes out! This is through our lifestyle, our thoughts, our will, prayers, fasting, and external help!
Let’s be aware that demons are kept alive in our lives by our thought patterns, a thought system that is favourable to them! If we are able to dismantle these patterns, then the evil spirits will have no where to hold on but flee from us!
First weapon
A good example on where to start is by dismantling pride in our lives! Pride is a virtue to the demonised! Therefore, changing our mindset to seeking genuine humility, really shakes demons (alive in us) to the core!
It is therefore wise to know that humility is a perfect first weapon to add to our stockpile of spiritual weapons we need to fight demons!
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Persistently patient
We should be persistently patient in our resistance of evil knowing that it may take a long time!
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2 NIV)
Always be alert
Don’t drop or lower your guard against demons!
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (Proverbs 4:23 NLT)
Be desperate
You must be desperate to win this war in your mind in order to gain a life of victory over sin!!
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)
Prayer and fasting
You need to set a time of prayer and set aside days to fast! Prayer alone may not bear fruits!
“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting” (Mathew 17:21 NKJV)
Seek spiritual help
You don’t need to do it alone. Seek help from persons living right with God! Help is necessary in your journey to deliverance!
Don’t hide your weaknesses
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16 NIV)
“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy”. (Proverbs 28:13 NIV)
Resolve to permanently live a holy life!
You must be determined to live a holy life! The final victory depends on this resolution!
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8 ESV)
